PRENDE involves creating a citizen-centric service with easy-to use software and communications to inform and increase interest at neighbourhood level about improving energy efficency through sustainable refurbishment and recommend best practices.
PRENDE, which is part of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness’ INNPACTO subprogramme, is a project organised by a consortium led by Ferrovial Agromán and which includes Ferconsa, the Centre for the Innovation of Smart Infrastructures (CI3), Empresa Municipal de la Vivienda y Suelo de Madrid (EMVS), the Centre for Research on Energy, the Environment and Technology (CIEMAT) and communications agency 3lemon.
Growth strategies: After completing a socio-economic analysis of PRENDE’s target neighbourhoods, a plan is drafted to implement unconventional actions to raise awareness among residents about energy refurbishment. The strategies’ impact is maximised by giving the project and its web platform a very active presence in social media, encouraging contact with potential users, providing an image of transparency and proximity, and actively involving the population.
Energy analysis of residential buildings: Another fundamental aspect of the project is the calculation of building energy scores in selected neighbourhoods and proposing refurbishment measures to improve energy efficiency. This analysis uses dynamic simulation batteries that have generated more than 820,000 results quantifying energy savings from proposed passive strategies.
PRENDE will succeed if it drives action in Spain’s housing pool, promoting the creation of a technologically advanced refurbishment industry that enables companies to become more competitive, not just in the domestic market but also at international level, while increasing the portfolio of rehabilitation actions and, therefore, improving energy efficiency, comfort and the living standards for citizens.
