Darryl Salmons

Darryl Salmons is Amey’s CIO; he joined in early 2013 to lead its technology and business improvements department to drive efficiencies and innovation across the company as well as improving services for its customers. Darryl is a member of the Amey Management Committee. Darryl began his career in systems development in the manufacturing and logistics sectors. He complemented this early foundation in building large, complex systems with IT management consultancy experience. Darryl undertook IT strategy and business transformation assignments for organisations in a range of sectors including financial services, utilities, retail, logistics and the public sector. In 1996 Darryl became IS Director for a major business unit at Exel Logistics where he led a critical change programme replacing all core systems across the business. This resulted in increased market share, improved customer retention and lower operational costs. He was later promoted to Group IS Strategy Director which saw his responsibilities expand to include global IS strategies across American, European and Asia Pacific markets. He was additionally responsible operationally for the management of IT service delivery. Darryl went on to become Group CIO at De La Rue in 2000, another FTSE listed company. At De La Rue he had global responsibility for IT in a diverse manufacturing and business services organisation. As global CIO he centralised IT teams across various disparate IT functions, from multiple business divisions and international theatres. He transformed IT services by the introduction of measurable IT service management improvements, implemented global knowledge management solutions and delivered value-added technology solutions for strategic customer accounts. Darryl then joined the FSA (Financial Services Authority) as CIO in 2005. During his five years at the FSA Darryl transformed IT, leading a multi-year IT transformation programme to deliver a world class IT function, and outsourced non-core IT functions. As a result, the IT team and function had the ability to deliver business strategy, meet industry standards and provide improved levels of service. Additionally he developed major new systems to meet the changing financial services regulatory agenda. Before joining Amey, Darryl was a Partner in the CIO Advisory practice for Kurt Salmon, a global management consultancy. Darryl has a degree in Economics, an MSc in Computing and an MBA.
